Charleston to Maine, day 8 – Scituate

Tuesday 3 July: leisure day in Scituate.
As we wake up still very sleepy we instantly decide not to head to Boston today. It’s just all too much of a rush, we need a day off from moving. So we go back to bed!
When we do get up, we study the list of events in Boston for tomorrow’s 4-July celebrations. It’s going to be mobbed there and the return train after fireworks will be packed. So we now plan to take Cloudy Bay there very early tomorrow morning instead of going by train. We can’t afford the crazy dock prices in Boston Harbour but Glen has found an anchorage and arranged with a yacht club for us to come in and tie up the dinghy. So that’s what we will do.
After lunch we take the bikes on the launch service into town. It’s swelteringly hot today … will we ever find consistently cooler weather we wonder? Cycling with the breeze though makes things a little better.
We cycle all the village and up to the lighthouse. It seems most houses have family and friends gathered on their verandas, drinking and having BBQs. It’s a very holiday atmosphere. Overall, a very pleasant place and we are certainly glad we stopped here.
We also fly the drone twice around the Harbour from different places. But the light somehow is not good, or maybe we shouldn’t have had the ND filter on the lens now that we are out of the bright Caribbean sun.
In the evening we sit on the deck of TKO’s, an Irish pub, and watch the fireworks going off all along the shore, whilst we chat to Martin, again a very friendly local. Everyone is extremely friendly here.
We just make the last launch back to Cloudy Bay, pack the bikes away in their locker and head to bed. Alarm is set for 4am so we can get to Boston in time for the 4-July parade. Oooph the things we do for tourism!
