Martinique, day 16 – Grande Anse & back to Ste.Anne

Thursday 3 May: A triple anchorage day today, we are moving for a change.
We need to get around and into Le Marin today before strong winds come in on Friday.
We start off in Anse L’Ann where we are woken early, as the 6am ferry enjoys rocking all the sleeping yachties as it ploughs into the bay.
Things are not good over breakfast, apparently due to our guests not sleeping very well last night because it was too hot. It was indeed a warm humid night, but they seal themselves into the bow with no hatches or doors open to allow through ventilation, so we are not surprised! Glen would be cooked medium-rare in a sealed room at 30Deg for 9 hours. Apparently it’s normal in Romania to sleep with no draft or air movement, especially on children.
By 9am we pull the anchor and motor 45 minutes around to Grande Anse. We could have sailed but we need to make water. In any case there is no apparent enthusiasm to be sailing.
At Grande Anse the water is really clear with turquoise patches where there is white sand below. It’s a very popular anchorage and it takes us 2 attempts to get the anchor placed just right so that we can safely swing in the small gap we have found.
We have just a few hours on the beach, then lunch, then we are off again. This next leg, into the swell and current will be rough, so sea sickness pills are administered in due time.
It would be a great, if not long, windward sail in the 15-18 knots of wind, but we opt to motor to get there as fast as possible.
We don’t enter the La Marin bay, instead anchor off St.Anne beach where we were 2 weeks ago, before the aborted attempt to get to St.Lucia.
Still half an hour of daylight, so we dinghy ashore to have some drinks. All bars are closed, so we go on to the nearby village Sante Anne, where bars and restaurants are still open at 7pm.
Tomorrow we will try to snorkel over the nearby reefs, although the forecast is to rain all day.
