Kite-surfing in Rendezvous Bay Anguilla

Saturday 2 March, Anguilla day 5: Another day on the beach and night out at Zemi Beach House.

Good night sleep after yesterday’s excitement. We enjoyed our beach day so much that we decided to repeat the experience. So we extend the hire car for yet another day and head off to the same Sunshine Shack in Rendezvous Bay.
The kite is pumped as soon as we get there and Glen is off on his kiteboard. The wind is slightly less than yesterday but he does manage few hours on the water. During which I relax under the umbrella. Well, relaxing when I can see him. Not so much when I watch him disappearing in the distance 1/2 way to St. Martin and all I see is a small green dot, his kite, just above the water. I set my eyes on a speed boat anchored nearby, to go rescue him if needed.
The beach bar seems busier today than yesterday, but it’s far from crowded. There are maybe 20 sun beds all together and few customers at the bar that are not sunbathers.

Beautiful sunny day again, with a wonderful temperature. I don’t get sticky at all and in the gusts it actually feels cool. I really feel like I am in paradise.
When Glen is adequately exerted and the wind is more pain than fun, he comes back and we sit for a delicious bbq lunch while waiting for his gear to dry. And when the sun is low enough to call it a day, we head back home. With a stop at Best Buy supermarket on the way, where we top up on fresh fruits and vegetables. Then return to Cloudy Bay for a warming tea and a brief rest.

In the evening we head out to the good life, in Shoal Bay this time. Zemi Beach House took our fancy the other day, and we are keen to see it by night too. As expected, it is quite a spectacular place in the evening, with beautifully lit pools and fire pits around the bar.
For the live entertainment there is a band of two, one playing saxophone and the other guitar. Brilliant, saxophone is my favorite musical instrument. And they are quite good. So we sit for cocktails and listen to them till the end of their performance.
Zemi is less populated than the Four Seasons, and maybe slightly less posh people here. And for such an extensive development we wonder if their properties are all sold or how many guests they have in the hotel.

With Zemi rather quiet now that the band is gone, we head off for the next interesting place in this bay. The Manoah Boutique Hotel. But when we get there the bar is absolutely empty. How is this possible? Such a beautiful setting and no customers. It is high season after all. We ponder again at what makes some venues successful and others seem to struggle for business?

A bit disappointed we return to Sandy Ground (Road Bay) and briefly stop at Elvis Beach Bar. The very down to earth venue of this beach. Quite crowded this evening, with half-drunk young American men chatting up some very pretty young local ladies. And we even witness a wedding proposal on the stage! Which is gladly accepted, otherwise there could have been a scene!
After our quick drink here we return to mothership, where we crash in bed before midnight for once. Another exciting day in paradise.
