Newport – admin day

Thursday 6 September: Admin day in Newport, Rhode Island.
Early rise to a bright day, feels great to have breakfast in a warm cockpit. A bit of admin before we go ashore. Glen has to arrange with friend Paul Gosling for a viewing of our West Solent (a 1926 classic) tomorrow in UK. A buyer has approached. Linette is one of those possessions that you never want to sell, but know deep down that you must. It’s not healthy for a wooden classic to be locked in a barn for years while we trot around the globe.
In town we split: Oana to the Maritime Center, for internet activities, and Glen to Newport Yacht Club to pick up the last delivery, a sleeve for the WiFi antenna which they forgot to send with the last shipment. Numpties 🙁 We get carried away with our internet and laptop duties, and before we know it it’s mid-afternoon. What is it with IT and time? Why did Einstein not predict time would more faster when connected to the internet? No wonder we start feeling hungry.
We return to s/v Cloudy Bay pleased with our progress, and after lunch we potter around for a bit. Clouds start gathering and the weather forecast brought the rain forward for 6pm, so we rush ashore, armed with Ponney, for a supermarket run. And we do almost run all the way there! When we come out, the sky is very dark and we hear thunders. We make it back to s/v Cloudy Bay before the rain, only just.
Our hopes of a downpour to clean off the decks proved to be an illusion, as it rained neither hard, nor long. We spend the rest of the evening onboard, with more admin on emails, hurricane forecasts, and editing videos. Then to bed for another peaceful night. Or will it be nightmares of Florence meeting Cloudy?
