Sunday 15 July: Camden, Maine.
We wake up to a very dark and cold day. Forecast showed a bit of sun today, fingers crossed it will indeed get sunny and warmer. After breakfast, we gear up in warm clothes and go ashore, to walk the town in daylight and hopefully get some pictures.
We pass the weekend arts & crafts market, which is a gathering of nicely laid stalls, all with arty exhibits, anything from jewelry to garden decorations. Most very nicely done, and definitely very creative. Some people certainly have the brain, eyes and hands for unusual design and execution.
After we admire all the stands, we stop for coffee and cakes in a very popular cafe. Nice break, during which we debate whether we should move to the next town this afternoon or we should remain here for another day. And we decide for the latter, the reasons being good internet and laundry available at the Lyman-Morse guests lounge and we need to make quite a few Skype calls first thing Monday.
We walk a bit on the main street trying to capture on video the town’s beauty, but the dark sky certainly didn’t help in that respect. Early afternoon we return to Cloudy Bay, ready to tackle the tasks of an intensely admin afternoon. We pack laptop and laundry and head for the guests lounge. On the launch boat trip ashore, we giggle a bit, as we run into the same man for the 3rd time since we arrived (actually, each time we called the launch boat, he was there too).
The guests lounge is a very well organized and comfortable area: comfy settees, warm room, AC-ed office-type room, nice big showers, laundry, lots of useful brochures, etc. so we make ourselves comfortable, ready to spend the rest of the afternoon here. Oana with 3 loads of laundry, and Glen on the laptop, taking advantage of the good internet. We send few emails, research and order some parts for the Volvo engine, etc. we also get to chat to a man who comes from Boothbay, and to our relief we find out it is a living small village there, it’s not just a marina in the boonies!
When we lift our heads from our tasks, we notice it is actually sunny and a beautiful light over the town. Hm, pitty we got stuck in here. Late afternoon we are very hungry and admin’ed-out, so we return to Cloudy Bay. At the launch boat, we come across the same man as earlier, and we joke with him that he is stalking us. His name is Phill, and comes from Florida.
After our late lunch (which we finished at 8pm) we debate if we fancy going ashore to have some drinks in the pub we found yesterday. The thought of a wet and cold dinghy ride is not appealing to either of us, so we decide to stay onboard for the evening.
Glen tackles the task of programming the new remote control for the swim platform. We lost our original one when we arrived in St. Augustine (Oana dropped it in the water, and it sunk immediately in the dark muddy river!). We ordered a replacement, and when it arrived it looked nothing like the original one, and it’s 3 times the size. But we were assured it will connect just fine. Which Glen has tried to do, going through two different sets of instructions. After lots of attempts, it does indeed work. Hurray, we can be civilized again, putting up the swim platform when we dinghy ashore.
The rest of the evening is spent going through lists of what we need to do before we leave the boat, items to order, things to pack for Buchy, etc. although it wasn’t necessarily a fun day, it was certainly a productive one. Early night tonight, as we plan to start earlier than usual in the morning.
