Wednesday 29 Apr, CY day 46: Starboard tube template completed.
Light wind again today. It’s going to be damned hot again. Just 15 minutes on the foredeck templating the dinghy gets me hot and dizzy. So decide to leave it till later in the day.
Using the templates for the rear part of the tube I attempt to construct this small piece in the relative cool of the saloon. The shape I have to make is literally 1/4 of a sphere, about the diameter of a baseball. I make it using 3 crescent segments. It proves very difficult to sew but after a bit of re-stitching and a lot of swearing I have something that looks reasonable. No wonder these dinghy covers cost a lot to have custom made. It’s clearly going to be a lot of work.
In the late afternoon, before sunset, I do the rest of the templating on the foredeck. That should give me quite a lot to be doing inside in the cool tomorrow.
Oana is still heavily into her reading. Breaking only to make coffee, lunch etc. Today was a book she really loved, set in Volos, Greece. It really reminded her of our summer when we cruised around Greece. We loved it so much there, the people, the scenery, the whole package. Only downsides to living there would be language barrier and locals not really embracing foreigners. But it’s still on top of our list for places to live after we stop this current circumnavigation adventure.
More good news from the shore today. 200 more tests and zero positive results. It’s almost a week now since the last positive test result. Interestingly, they also mention that some of those in isolation are now well beyond two weeks and still testing positive for Covid-19. They are not allowing them out of isolation until they have completed 2 negative tests. But it’s interesting that some are staying infected for so long, and most of these are asymptomatic.
In the evening we run the air conditioner for a while again, to cool the inside of the boat. Nice while it’s on, but within 40 minutes of turning it off, it feels hot again. We really need to start heading north!
