Tuesday 8 January, St. Kitts: Yet more tinkering on board.
To move or not to move, this is the question. Or today’s dilemma in our case… and we decide not to move, but to have a quiet admin day onboard while we are in an anchorage that doesn’t rock and does have WiFi. So till mid afternoon we keep busy catching up on few calls, e-mails, banking, orders of spare parts in Europe – all these tasks which we need internet for, and Salt Plage WiFi comes in handy again.
On the vang order, the person we need to talk to at Reckmann is still doing stock count and still not coming to the phone. And FGK rigging are having the same problem. They say it’s the same with all European suppliers after Christmas holidays – they are all playing catch up.
Later in the afternoon, when the heat is out of the sun, we move the activities outdoors, on the decks.
Before the haul-out in Antigua we have removed all the rubbing strips from the gunwale, to strip off the Coelan varnish. And we kept them off since then, to allow ourselves some time to decide whether we re-varnish or not. And I guess we have taken a silent decision, as now Glen tackles the task to put them back on. We are not going to re-varnish. Anyway, even if we decide later on to varnish, we need the screws for the strips in their holes before they get full of salt.
The aft seats get re-installed also, and he finishes with them right on time for another nice sunset.
After which, some polishing is in order, to clean the rust marks off the push pit. Well, that was the beginning, as soon after that Glen got carried away and polished all the stainless steel fittings till late into the night. Ray, you were right, Glen is very good at cleaning! 🙂

He also noticed that one of the navigation lights on the bow had some water ingress where some self amalgamating tape had worn through. So those were also cleaned and resealed. Considering the amount of water over the bow in the last few passages, it’s a wonder the light still works!
After late evening tea and toast in the cockpit, we take our last look over the quiet (by now) Salt Plage and the bay before we depart to Nevis tomorrow. And we comment that we have never been at anchor for so long in one place, since owning the boat. It’s been 10 days now. Hope the anchor is not cemented in place!
