Thursday 2 Apr, CY day 19: Too much video editing, and it’s starting to get to our nerves.
Another day when I’d hoped to make a start on the next sewing project. But no progress beyond just taking some measurements, as it became another day of us working on videos and related items. We managed to get a good enough WiFi from ashore, and spent most of the day fighting to keep the internet connected (while we have it!) to get few more videos uploaded. Starts to feel like last year, when it’s becoming a chore and creating unnecessary stress… with rather unpleasant results in our cramped world together. But at least all Exuma footage is now out of the way. Finished!
News from ashore is not good again today. 5 more people have tested positive, 4 of which community spread. All are contained and still no one seriously ill yet. Bad, but nothing compared to the disastrous numbers coming out of Europe and America – the two places we want to go to. The authorities here also claim they will soon receive a delivery of 200,000 test kits, direct from South Korea. Given there are only 65,000 people in Caymans, that quantity seems quite excessive! Anyway, ordering the kits is one thing, getting them here is quite another with all flights shut down. Can’t take it away from them though, they are absolutely determined to keep Cayman out of the death zone and so far they get our thumbs-up for their effort.
But as Churchill once said: “in times like this, it’s not doing our best that is the most important thing. It’s doing the absolute necessary that is vital.”
Needless to say, despite being our supermarket day we didn’t use this as an excuse to go ashore. With the spike in the community spread positive cases, we became more reluctant to this indulgence. The only time off the boat was taking a swim around the boat.
And that’s about all the news from Cloudy Bay today. Yet somehow we still manage to not go to bed before 1am!
