Returning to Cloudy Bay in Huntington Yacht Club
    USA

    Back onboard after NYC vacation

    by Oana September 23, 2018
    written by Oana

Sunday 23 September: New York vacation over, back to Cloudy Bay in Huntington Yacht Club.
We had 5 days off from Cloudy Bay, for a short vacation in New York. Which today finished, and we returned to our home, arriving just before sunset. Heating went on immediately as we entered the boat, we were so looking forward to it after few chilly days in NYC. Just when is the sun going to return to this part of the world? Summer is clearly over. Definitely time to head south again.
Cloudy Bay behaved herself while we were away. We found the batteries on 75% charge, surprisingly high after such cloudy days. The solar panels are doing a great job topping up on power, when we are not onboard to consume more than the solar input.
Condensation was not bad at all, but as we started to put our stuff away, we noticed mildew in some of the cupboards. So we went straight into a frenzy of taking all our clothes out and whipping off the inner lining of the cupboards. Which kept Oana busy till 11pm!
During this time, Glen kept busy calling US Coast Guard to find out what marine traffic restrictions will be in place next week on East River, where the UN building is. Due to the UN Security Council session, which President Trump and other heads of states will attend, there will be lots of security measures in place next week. As of now, looks like there is full ban only in the mornings, and we might be allowed on the east side in the afternoons. But the Roosevelt Bridge is too low for our clearance, and we can only pass under it if gets lifted. We will need to announce our arrival 6 hours ahead, but there is no phone number available to call on. So as of now, not sure of whether we can go through East River before Saturday. Will need to check again with US Coast Guard in the next couple of days.
We are finally in our cozy berth by 00:30. So peaceful, no rocking, no lapping, no noises from the next hotel room or sirens from the streets below. Bliss!

About us

About us

Sail Cloudy Bay

Hi there! We are Glen & Oana, restless spirits with travel and adventure in our hearts. In mid-2016 we decided to put an end to our working days, and travel the world. And what better way to do it, if not sailing! We are aspiring to complete a circumnavigation, and this is our blog where we try to keep a record of our adventures. We live on s/v Cloudy Bay (and sometimes in Bucharest), have a long list of places to sail to, and we like coffee and good cocktails.
