    Where to next?

Monday 15 Apr, Puerto Rico day 11: Day of rest (read: admin on the scarce WiFi), hibernating aboard. Finalizing travel arrangements to Europe and researching where we go next.
For the first time in what seems like weeks, we have a chill out day on board. The hire car goes back at 10am, the aircon goes on and we hibernate inside. But not before flying the drone over Yacht Club Marina. We’ve been here 11 days, it’s only fair to have an aerial recording of it.

Then cleaning up all our stuff from our road trip before getting down to some serious internet work.
Cars and flights are booked for our UK and Europe trip then we start looking at where we go from here. We are done with this side of Puerto Rico, and with being into the marina, so time to move on.
Plan is to depart tomorrow and sail 50miles along the south coast and anchor behind Isla Caja de Muertos (Coffin Island), the island where we spotted the “A” super yacht yesterday. Then head to Cabo Rojo on the west coast for a few days.

Next is to investigate Dominican Republic and how best to transit, south side or north side. South side would let us get near to the capital Santo Domingo but then we would have to go all around Haiti before we could get back to track to Turks and Caicos. So as of now it looks like a northerly passage it will be. The initial leg looks like it will be 160nm to Samana so that will be a 24 hour passage. Our first overnight since we sailed from Bermuda.

Before we know it is evening, and just as we switch off the aircon and open the hatches, threatening clouds are coming our way bringing a fair bit of rain. But this doesn’t stop me pottering on the deck, preparing for the sailing tomorrow.
We had hoped for an early night, especially because Oana seems to be developing a cold. I’d had a mild version a couple of days ago too. Must be all those days with the air-conditioning both in the car and AirBnBs. Thankfully this is the first “illness” (other than sea sick, of course!) that we have had since departing Europe 15 months ago. Such is our healthy lifestyle.
With internet activities at an end, we roll into bed at 1am with alarm for 7:30am.

About us

About us

Sail Cloudy Bay

Hi there! We are Glen & Oana, restless spirits with travel and adventure in our hearts. In mid-2016 we decided to put an end to our working days, and travel the world. And what better way to do it, if not sailing! We are aspiring to complete a circumnavigation, and this is our blog where we try to keep a record of our adventures. We live on s/v Cloudy Bay (and sometimes in Bucharest), have a long list of places to sail to, and we like coffee and good cocktails.
