Start shopping for the big stock-up

    by Glen November 16, 2019
    written by Glen

Saturday 16 Nov, HHN day 36: The big stocking up exercise begins … Well, sort of. Let’s just say a warm up to the exercise!
A windy night, as predicted. But in our new berth on M-dock we are snug. And other than squeaking mooring surprisingly there are none of the usual lapping noises in the aft cabin.
We wake to a sunny but chilly day and… oh, are we healing over? Yes, again the water has been pushed out of the Chesapeake with the northerly wind and we are again aground in 2.3m water. We do have a slight lean to the boat, but just as likely the strong wind on the top of the mast than the boat actually falling over!

Hoping that the water level won’t drop any further, we set off armed with our shopping bags plus several items to return to various places. First stop post office, where curiously they seem to have run out of stamps for letters to the UK. Apparently they are locked in the safe and not reachable till Monday! No wonder the couriers are killing USPS business! Then to UPS which, compared to USPS, is an example of efficiency.
Then to Walmart. Walmart is one of those dreaded stores where you arrive with the intention to buy just a few peanuts, but end up with a trolley FULL of peanut type items, which collectively add up to a big checkout bill! And today is no exception. 3 hours later we exit with our trolley full, mostly of unplanned purchases – but of course each very useful and good value for money.

Next stop Home Depot. Simpler shopping here. Just 3 items. At the prospect of next moving to Weis supermarket to start the real shopping in earnest, we instead decide to return to mothership and get our current car load of purchases on board, perhaps going shopping again in the evening … which we actually know we won’t!

Once on board, in the coziness of the cabin, we are content to stay put and relax for the rest of the evening with the north wind continuing to howl in the rigging. And now that we actually have internet at this dock, we keep busy updating the Raymarine instruments.
Yes, that’s it. That’s all we did today!

About us

About us

Sail Cloudy Bay

Hi there! We are Glen & Oana, restless spirits with travel and adventure in our hearts. In mid-2016 we decided to put an end to our working days, and travel the world. And what better way to do it, if not sailing! We are aspiring to complete a circumnavigation, and this is our blog where we try to keep a record of our adventures. We live on s/v Cloudy Bay (and sometimes in Bucharest), have a long list of places to sail to, and we like coffee and good cocktails.
