Thursday 12 Jul: Eastern Bay – finalizing the travel arrangements for the trip to Europe.
More admin in front of the laptop this morning, looking for trains and buses to take us to the airport. Not only we are far from Boston, but looks like we will moor up the boat far from any means of transport too. After a bit of research we pin down a bus and hope for the best (as in it won’t be cancelled on the day). So we have bus, flights, mooring. We are all set at last. What a relief.
We have 5 days to get to Bristol Marine at Boothbay Harbor where Cloudy Bay will have her 3 week holiday on a mooring. And now that we have a firm address for a while we also start ordering several things from our to buy list which can be delivered to the boat yard while we are away.
Back on Cloudy Bay we eat and fly the drone. Wonderful scenery up there. Glen even does a 2nd flight just to practice some new flight settings while it’s so peaceful here.
Whilst in the air a fishing boat passes and we film them pulling lobster pots, emptying them and throwing them back in. Not sure they are too amused to be filmed from a drone! Fiona did warned us that the Maine Lobstermen are not to be messed with! Also circling the fishing boat are seagulls. And they don’t take too kindly to this strange machine competing for fish scraps and they soon start swooping on the drone …. so it’s a sharp exit back to home base: the foredeck of Cloudy Bay.
In the early evening we rejoin Fiona and Theo for dinner at Sweet Pea’s Farm Cafe, the local farm restaurant where we enjoy actually tasting their mussels. Delicious! The best we have ever tasted. We sit outside and soon they are lighting fire pits, both to keep us warm and keep the man-eating mosquitos at bay!
After a beer in their garden we say our goodbyes and head back to Cloudy Bay. It’s always a stunning sight coming out of the dense forest path onto the little beach to the twilight reflecting on still water. Quite a magical place.
Back on board we attempt to edit some videos but are rather disappointed to find the new GoPro6 videos cannot be imported into Adobe Premier Elements. Damn! Isn’t IT just the bain of life sometimes?? So we finish the few days backlog of blogs then head to bed. Tomorrow we start moving south again. This time, in search of warmth!
