Friday 20 Dec, West Palm FL day 5:
Wind slightly less this morning but forecast just as gloomy. I dash ashore in the morning to get the Hookah system. The dinghy dock is still a safety hazard but it has to be done. Back at Cloudy we empty one side of the aft deck locker and reorganize to allow the Hookah compressor to fit in. It’s amazing how easy you can create space when you need to.
Then we both head ashore. The dinghy dock is full and we have to squeeze the Highfield between 2 dirty dinghies. I put fenders out but it’s pointless with the way all the boats are bouncing. There was a better place to put it, but the selfish owners of those nearby dinghies had raised their outboards. Can they not see that those sharp propellers will cut through any rubber boat. So so selfish. When I see outboard engines raised in a dinghy dock it makes me mad.
So off we trot in our hybrid rental car. I have to say it’s nice to maneuver silently. A bit weird at first but I could get to like it. First stop is West Marine, followed by ACE hardware followed by Publix supermarket.
Then it’s time to return the hire car. The roads seem unusually busy, and we find out that Mr. D. Trump (President of USA, if you hadn’t heard) is arriving to his house in West Palm and security has blocked several roads.
The ride back to Cloudy is again very wet, and this time with Oana in the dinghy too. I must say, for me the ride was actually drier with her sitting in front of me 🙂
Evening is again streaming a movie and listening to the howling wind which is tonight gusting well over 30kts. While the water is pretty calm where we are anchored on the windward shore, the gusts are hitting the mast and furled foresails, healing us over. No need for any sails in these conditions!

Can you get the little Honda generator (somehow) to function as an emergency / stand-by / back-up power unit?
Any serious diving manual will advise you that there should always be a safety person aboard. In other words, you should not both “Hookah” dive unless you have third party on deck. George
