Charleston, day 3 – King Street night life

    by Oana June 22, 2018
    written by Oana

Friday 22 June: back in Charleston for a night out.
After yet another leisurely breakfast at Caroline and David’s we say our goodbyes and head back East, looking forward to reunite with Cloudy Bay after 3 days away.
The air is warm here inland, but not humid and the morning light in the clear sun makes for a lovely drive across country through to the highway.
We make a brief stop for a Starbucks coffee then it’s onto the I385 and I26. The road is much busier today and there are a few accidents that cause traffic jams. We had hoped to do some out-of-town shopping before we took the car back at 4pm but in the end we only just made it back to the Budget office before it closed. Shopping will have to be by Uber tomorrow.
Once back on Cloudy Bay we reduce the AC temperature and quickly lock ourselves inside, as outside is extremely hot and humid. We had planned an evening in town, but we end up playing with the internet and catching up on some admin …. and just relaxing for once!
By 9.30pm we’ve had enough of laptop, and decide to go out after all. Short Uber drive later we are on King Street, where most bars are located. The area is buzzing with lots of youngsters navigating from one bar to the other, some venues having very long queues to get in.
We stop first at Prohibition, which looked very nice on Monday when we had the investigating tour. Now it was very loud and crowded, not the cozy and chilled out spot we had previously imagined. Cocktails not that good either.
So we move on, passing several venues with the same type of loud crowd, aiming for the Warehouse. Once there, the queue to get in was enormous, and we are not exactly eager to spend 30 min waiting to get in.
During our walk back, we spot Felix, a French restaurant & bar which looked classy and a lot less crowded. Great, time for another cocktail and some French food (which for the night menu were only bites). Very nice venue.
We also briefly nose in the Cocktail Club, which felt just as pleasant as it did on Monday. Maybe it will remain our favorite here.
By 1am we are back at Cloudy Bay, vouching we will do shopping and walk more of the town tomorrow. We crush in bed, with all blinds closed and no alarm, determined to have a full night sleep and more.

About us

Sail Cloudy Bay

Hi there! We are Glen & Oana, restless spirits with travel and adventure in our hearts. In mid-2016 we decided to put an end to our working days, and travel the world. And what better way to do it, if not sailing! We are aspiring to complete a circumnavigation, and this is our blog where we try to keep a record of our adventures. We live on s/v Cloudy Bay (and sometimes in Bucharest), have a long list of places to sail to, and we like coffee and good cocktails.
