    Utility day

Friday 27 Dec, Hollywood FL day 4: Alarm at 7:30am, busy day ahead. At least busy till we have to return the car at 3pm. We are a bit too leisurely getting off the boat and finally get to the launderette by 10am. It’s a massive facility and there is another one a similar size across the road just a block away. In fact, in USA there are launderettes everywhere, which we are a bit bemused about. I mean, this is a country where everyone owns multiple cars and TVs yet they don’t own washing machines? It doesn’t add up. Anyway, lucky for us I guess.

During the laundry exercise Oana tries to use the Sony camera only to find it doesn’t work 🙁 Yesterday it got dropped – no names please! …. but it wasn’t me for once 🙂 And today it’s kaput 🙁 This is our 3rd such camera in 3 years. 1st lost in Greece, 2nd one was dropped on the pavement and afterwards the memory card kept popping out, and now this one also dropped on the pavement and completely dead.
A sight panic ensues. We have cameras on our phones of course but nothing like the quality of this Sony camera. So we rush to BestBuy where we find almost exactly the same model. But instead of a replacement, Oana thinks we should get a smart phone with a decent camera on it. But the only one reasonably priced is out of stock, so we leave empty handed. And she was reluctant to buy yet another Sony (which would’ve been our 4th) saying it is cursed, and we are not meant to have one.

Next stop is supermarket and by the time we have dropped the car and back to the dinghy we wonder how will we fit in the dinghy all the bags of laundry and shopping. Luckily the new Highfield is big enough and we all squeeze in … just.
Back onboard we stow everything away and have a late lunch. Then contact Amazon to see what to do about the camera that “has stopped working”. Well, let’s be honest, a good camera should take a fall or two, right? To our surprise they offer a replacement or refund if we send it back. So tomorrow it will be a trip to USPS before we depart.

Looks like we will leave here to Miami tomorrow. This will give us the option to carry on south to Marathon and across to Cuba, or head east across to Bahamas. We are really undecided which.

About us

About us

Sail Cloudy Bay

Hi there! We are Glen & Oana, restless spirits with travel and adventure in our hearts. In mid-2016 we decided to put an end to our working days, and travel the world. And what better way to do it, if not sailing! We are aspiring to complete a circumnavigation, and this is our blog where we try to keep a record of our adventures. We live on s/v Cloudy Bay (and sometimes in Bucharest), have a long list of places to sail to, and we like coffee and good cocktails.
