Saturday 5 May: Guests departure day today. There is no apparent sadness about leaving. We think they are looking forward to get back home to their routine.
In the morning we go ashore. Along with Darius we get the hire car while Teo and Geta do last minute shopping.
Darius seems so happy alone with us. He gives the occasional little moan when we walk in a direction that he doesn’t want to go, but our firmness puts an end to that and he happily follows a few seconds later.
As we climb the stairs to the Capitanerie, he is unable to climb them by himself. But after some encouragement accending then descending the long flight of steps, all by himself, becomes a favorite game.
Such a happy little lad he is. We look forward to when he can be sent to us for his holidays. But the contentment and playfulness all ends when we meet back up with parents. Darius instantly creates a scene, crying to be carried by Dad. Which of course he gets 🙁
Once back on Cloudy Bay all focus is to get Darius to sleep, but he’s in no mood for that mid-morning! So we go back ashore to have lunch.
Darius is his usual self in the restaurant, only wanting sugary juice and chips – which he gets, to keep the peace. It’s difficult to watch him totally in charge of the situation, and parents stressed by it. Not the happiest of last meals, unfortunately.
By 4pm we are off to the airport where finally they talk positively about their time on Cloudy Bay, which surprises us, but very nice to hear.
As we say our goodbyes and they disappear through departures, Darius suddenly realises we are not with them and he turns to us and cries with a face that would melt anyone’s heart – especially an Auntie who will miss him, big time.
As we have the car for the rest of the day we first drive to Anse L’Ann where we forgot our flip-flops 2 evenings ago. We find Glen’s next to the restaurant, but Oana’s seem to have been claimed by someone. Pity, they were her favorites.
Then a quick stop at Mr.Bricolage to exchange a spanner we bought last week, then back to the marina complex for a cocktail at Kokoa Rum.
We sit for a couple of hours chatting about the last 2 weeks, sad that our guests have gone but nice to be ourselves again.
